Aisle of a warehouse style store with inventory in boxes lining shelves

If you’re in the market for an air purifier, a home improvement store like Home Depot might be your first stop. In this guide, we’ll review some popular Home Depot air purifier options and introduce you to a model we think is better than anything you’ll find there.

Whether you suffer from allergies, asthma, or other respiratory issues, indoor air quality is an understandable concern. Even if you don’t have respiratory problems, however, it’s worth investing in a solution that helps remove odor, allergens, and other impurities from the air you and your family breathe.

An air purifier is a device that sanitizes the air. They differ from air filters in that they do more than just trap solid particles like dust and pet dander. Air purifiers neutralize toxins, pollutants, and allergens. They can even kill viruses and bacteria that could get your family sick.

What Air Purifiers Does Home Depot Sell?

Home Depot is a one-stop shop for all of your home improvement needs. They also offer a wide variety of small appliances like air purifiers, dehumidifiers, and portable air conditioning units. If you’re not quite sure what kind of air purifier would best fit your needs, it may be worth checking out their selection to get a feel for what’s out there.

While Home Depot offers a decent selection of air purifiers, there may be better options out there in terms of price and quality. Before we get to our top pick, however, let’s take a look at some of the options you’ll find in Home Depot stores.

Alen BreatheSmart 75i True HEPA Air Purifier

Pricey but high-performance, this air purifier is rated for rooms up to 1,300 square feet. It catches 99.9% of dust, bacteria, and viruses through the use of a H13 True HEPA medical-grade filter.

While this model is certainly impressive, it’s probably more than you want to spend and more than the average homeowner really needs. Ask yourself if you even have a room in your house as large as 1,300 square feet. This model might be more appropriate for commercial use, especially given the near-$750 price tag.

Another feature that makes this air purifier unique is the Smart Sensor technology. The purifier has a display on the front that informs you of your indoor air quality in real time. The unit self-adjusts to keep your home fresh and its performance is Energy Star certified for efficiency.

If you’re not ready to spend $750 or simply don’t need something with the capacity the BreatheSmart has to offer, something like the VEVO 8000 might be more appropriate.

Winix D480True HEPA 3-Stage Air Purifier

Another popular air purifier at Home Depot is this HEPA purifier from Winix. Equipped with 3-stage filtration and a true HEPA filter, this model captures airborne pollutants and helps remove solid particles from the air as well.

This purifier is suitable for rooms up to 480 square feet. It has a simple white design that won’t detract from your home decor and it’s priced under $250.

The Winix D480 True air purifier utilizes a True HEPA filter to remove 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns. Plus, an activated carbon filter absorbs odors while the mesh pre-filter collects dust, pollen, and hair. Its performance is easy to control with four fan speeds and a sleep mode which dims the lights and sets the fan to quiet.

While this model is more affordable than the previous, it’s still a little bit pricey. It too may be bigger than you need for a small room and it takes up a fair amount of floor space. The VEVA 8000, by contrast, has a small footprint and is priced under $100.

LEVOIT VortexAir True HEPA Air Purifier

The smallest of the three models discussed here, this LEVOIT air purifier features a cylindrical shape. It is small and compact but still equipped with a high-efficiency activated carbon filter, a pre-filter, and a H13 True HEPA filter.

This model traps at least 99.97% of airborne particles as small as 0.3 microns with noise levels as low as 24dB. It’s rated for rooms up to 219 square feet and can purify the air up to five times per hour.

While this air purifier is reasonably sized and economically priced around $100, its performance is somewhat limited. It might be appropriate for a bedroom or home office, but large, open-concept spaces like living rooms may be too big.

It’s also worth noting that replacement filters can be a little expensive. An air purifier that comes with several replacement filters like the VEVA 8000 offers better value.

Are Home Depot Air Purifiers a Good Choice?

While Home Depot may offer a decent variety of air purifiers, they may not have the right combination of features that you really need. You may also find that in-store prices are higher than those you’d find online. If you’re looking for an air purifier that delivers on both price and quality, we’d recommend the VEVA 8000.

Bottom Line

When shopping for an air purifier, one option may seem equivalent to any other but that simply isn’t the case. It’s important to consider the size of the room you plan to use it in as well as the cost to run and maintain the unit.

The air purifiers you’ll find at Home Depot are decent, but they’re a little overpriced and some are simply too big for most homes. The VEVA 8000 offers attractive pricing, reliable performance, and added value with the inclusion of replacement filters.
