Before we dive in, it’s important to understand how air purifiers work. Most air purifiers use air filtration technology that removes 99.9% of particles, down to 0.01 microns. Its HEPA filters clean the air by capturing mold, ollen, smoke, dust, dust mites, pet dander and even bacteria. Medify air purifiers, though, take it even one step further. There is a downside to the combined filters, however. The activated carbon filter saturates before the HEPA filter, and you can’t change them independently. And while the attached pre-filter isn’t washable, you can clean it gently to remove the dust.
Because H13 filters have such small holes, they can cause a pressure drop and get saturated quite quickly. That’s why the MA-40 uses a higher airflow to deal with the pressure drop.
The MA-40 v2.0 also has an optional ionizer add-on that releases charged particles that attach to dust in the air, making it fall. Even though ionizer filtration releases a small amount of ozone, it is ozone-safe.
The MA-40 v2.0 has four fan speeds, including sleep mode, when the lights automatically go off. The HEPA filter has a lifespan of 3000 hours, which is about six months of use, after which you have to replace it.
Medify Air MA-25
With a coverage of 250 square feet, MA-25 is the most thorough mid-size air purifier. It comes with the medical-grade H13 HEPA filter, and it has a CADR rating of 250, with a 1:1 ratio of CADR to square footage. This model works great in medium-sized to small rooms to thoroughly clean your air from pollutants.
The MA-25 filter has a lifespan of 2500 hours, which rounds to about four months of use, when you have to replace it with a new one. At 14 inches tall, you can use it as a desktop or floor model. In many ways, the MA-25 is like a mini version of the MA-40. It’s light, weighing only 7.3 pounds, making it easy to carry around from room to room. You can also pick between white, black, and silver to match your interior design, where this stylish device will fit in for sure.
It has three fan settings, with the lowest one being so quiet that it won’t interrupt your sleep. We love everything about this air purifier, but the only thing missing, especially in this price range, is the air quality sensor.
Medify MA-50
If you want something solid and efficient but in a smaller form, consider the MA-50 air purifier. Equipped with filters on all four sides of the device, MA-50’s first line of pollutant protection is the pre-filter that traps large particles. By doing so, it extends the life of the H13 HEPA filter. To help this process, you can vacuum the pre-filter once a month.
The MA-50 Air Purifier is 50% lighter than the MA-40 and shorter by an inch, making it even easier to move around and fit in your space. Its filter lifespan is 3,000 hours, which is enough for six months of use at a tempo of 16 hours a day.
It doesn’t have an ionizer option like the MA-40 V2.0, but it comes with a UV light. The purpose of UV light is to destroy germs and mold in the filter. The UV light is permanent and LED-type, not as effective as the mercury-based UV lamps. Even though it’s smaller, the MA-50 delivers 70 cfm more air. At 294 cfm, it can clean an area of 550 square feet four times per hour. It has four fan speeds and running it at high speed, you refresh the air entirely and clean it from dust, pollen, and any bacteria that can trigger your allergies. At the lowest speed, this model is quieter than a humming refrigerator.
