How the Levoit LV-H133 Cleans the Air

The best thing about the Levoit LV-H133 air purifier is that it has an advanced air filtration design.

Instead of just drawing air in from one side of the device, like many other air purifiers do, the Levoit LV-H133 has a cylindrical design that sucks air in from multiple directions.

By using a cylindrical filter, the Levoit LV-H133 is 40% more efficient than air purifiers that use standard flat filters, such as the Levoit LV-PUR131.

Something worth noting here is that the Levoit LV-H133 product description states that it has a “360° filter design and cyclone technology that takes in air from all sides”.

However, if you look closely at the outer casing, you can see that the right and left sides of the machine don’t have air intake holes.

From our observation and testing, it seems that this air purifier really only sucks air in from two sides—front and back.

That makes us wonder if you can extend the life of your filter by rotating 90° every few months since the left and right sides are not taking in direct airflow.

It may be worth a try if you buy this air purifier.

As for the actual air filtration methods that the Levoit LV-H133 uses, it includes:

  • Pre-filter – Traps large particles, like dust, dirt, and hair and helps extend the life of the other filters.
  • True HEPA Filter – Captures 99.97% of contaminants down to 0.3 microns in size and fine particulate matter (PM) air pollution down to 2.5 micrometers. This filter is what keeps allergens and contaminants out of the air you breathe.
  • Activated Carbon Filter – Reduces odors that are caused by cooking, smoke, pets, cleaning agents, paints, etc. This filter helps keep your home smelling fresh.

All three of these filters are combined into one 360° filter design which makes replacements easy—just swap out the dirty cartridge for a clean one.

The recommended interval for replacing this filter is every 6-8 months depending on the amount of use.

However, you may be able to extend this even further if you try our tip on rotating the filter that we previously mentioned.

The filter-set in the Levoit LV-H133 is designed to remove airborne contaminants such as:

  • Dust
  • Dirt
  • Soot
  • Smoke
  • Drops of liquid
  • Allergens
  • Pet dander
  • Pollen
  • Mold spores
  • Some forms of bacteria and germs
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Levoit LV-H133 Coverage

With the Levoit LV-H133, you’re going to get an impressive 538 square feet (sq. ft.) of air cleaning coverage.

That size makes this a good air purifier for large rooms in your house, like the living room, basement, an open floor plan (connected living/dining/kitchen areas), big master bedrooms, and more.

If you live in an apartment, you’ll be happy to know that this air purifier is also built to handle those types of large open living quarters.

If you’re looking for something a bit smaller, you could try the LV-PUR131 or LV-PUR131S Wi-Fi version that handles up to 322 sq. ft.

Those models are more ideal for small to medium-size areas of the home, like bedrooms, dens, office spaces, etc.

Here's how other Levoit air purifiers we've reviewed compare:

Levoit LV-H133 Design

Photo of Levoit LV-H133 design

The Levoit LV-H133 has one of the sleekest designs we’ve seen in our air purifier reviews of this caliber.

Its white, cylinder-shaped body has a modern feel and will look good in any room.

The aircraft engine inspired design of the internal motor not only increases efficiency by 40% but also makes this a very quiet machine to operate.

On the lowest setting, you can barely hear it running.

The medium fan speed does have some audible noise but the sound is a dull woosh, like someone blowing through a tube.

The internal cylindrical design is what helps dampen the sound.

The backside of the machine has a removable panel for making the filter replacement and is held on by a set of magnets.

This unique design makes it easy to reattach the panel since it automatically snaps into place.

Levoit LV-H133 Size and Dimensions

While the Levoit LV-H133 is not a tall or heavy machine, it’s really designed to be kept in one room of your home.

Other air purifier models are made to be carried from room to room, but not so with the Levoit LV-H133.

It does have a small carrying handle space on the back of the unit right above the filter door, but it’s a bit cumbersome to move the machine around since the front and sides don’t have an easy area for you to grab onto with your other hand.

As for the exact dimensions and weight, these include:

  • Width: 14.8”
  • Height: 24.9”
  • Weight: 18 lbs.

Levoit LV-H133 Features

If you’re looking for simplicity, you’re really going to enjoy the Levoit LV-H133 air purifier.

Every aspect of the machine is controlled by a touch panel on the top of the device. There is no remote control or smartphone app to fiddle with.

The touch panel is very sensitive and only takes the lightest touch to make any adjustments.

The buttons and functions you’ll find on the top control panel include:

Air Quality Indicator

This is a brightly colored ring of light. This light indicates the current level of air quality inside the room.

  • Blue = Very Good
  • Green = Good
  • Orange = Moderate
  • Red = Bad

The air quality indicator light gives you an instant visual cue for how good or bad the air quality is around you.

Fan Speed

The Levoit LV-H133 has three individual fan speeds. By touching this button, you can switch between low, medium, and high.

Automatic Mode

Tapping this button puts the air purifier in an automatic sensing mode.

When the air quality is good, the air purifier will operate on low fan speed. When the air quality gets worse, the air purifier will adjust the fan speed to medium or high to remove the pollutants.

Once the air quality is detected to be good again, the air purifier will shift back into low fan speed without you having to touch a thing.

Sleep Mode

Putting the air purifier in sleep mode ensures that the device won’t shift out of the low fan speed even if poor air quality demands it.

Sleep mode keeps the air purifier noise level around 25 dB so that it won’t wake you up during the night.

Display On/Off

This button allows you to turn the air quality indicator light and the touch panel lights on and off.

This is another feature that can benefit you while you sleep.

Filter Change Indicator

With the filter change indicator, you never have to guess when it’s time to replace your air filter. This alert will light up every six months as a reminder to check your filter. If it looks dirty, then it’s time to change it. If it’s still relatively clean, then you can extend the replacement schedule.

Timer

The timer function gives you the ability to automatically turn the air purifier off after a set number of hours.

The Levoit LV-H133 offers one-hour increments between 1 to 12 hours.

While this may seem like a nice feature to have, the truth is you want to run your air purifier 24 hours per day to get the cleanest air.

The only time we would suggest using the timer feature is if you’re going to be leaving the house for an extended period of time and don’t want to forget to turn the air purifier off. Setting the timer function will power down the air purifier until you tap the power button to cycle it back on again.

Who Should Buy the Levoit LV-H133?

The Levoit LV-H133 air purifier is a powerful machine at a great price; however, certain people will benefit from it more than others.

If you fall into any of these categories, you’ll definitely enjoy the Levoit LV-H133.

  • You want simplicity – This air purifier works instantly right out of the box. There’s no complicated setup or controls to figure out.
  • You want multi-level air filtration – It includes the three must-have air filters for any high-quality device: Pre-filter, True HEPA filter, and Activated Carbon filter for removing the widest range of airborne pollutants.
  • You want the purest air – It removes 99.97% of contaminants down to 0.3 microns, PM 2.5 air pollution, and volatile organic compounds: all of which are known to be harmful to your health.
  • You want an affordable option – It costs less than many other air purifiers in its class; less than $180.
  • You need an air purifier for a large room – Not all air purifiers can handle up to 538 sq. ft. Many devices are built for small to medium-size rooms. This air purifier gives you the coverage you need for large areas of the home.
