In a report titled Ozone Generators That Are Sold as Air Cleaners: An Assessment of Effectiveness and Health, the EPA brought light to the fact that some manufacturers were mislabeling ozone generators as “air cleaners” as a way to sell more of them to the public.
Those vendors were leading people to believe that these ozone generating devices were always safe to use indoors as a way to reduce airborne pollutants.
